Captain Elechi Amadi died Wednesday at the Good Heart hospital in Port Harcourt at the age of 82.
Elechi Amadi who was born in May 12, 1934 to June 29, 2016 and hails from Aluu in the Ikwerre local government area of Rivers State was a Nigerian author of plays and novels that are generally about African village life, customs, beliefs and strict practices, as they were before the coming of the Western world. Amadi is best regarded for his 1966 first novel, The Concubine, that can be called "an outstanding work of pure fiction".
Some of his works include The Concubine, The Great Ponds, Isiburu, Sunset in Biafra, Dance of Johannesburg, Peppersoup, The Road to Ibadan, The Slave , Estrangement and the Woman of Calaber.
